Navy's morale-boosting story torpedoed as fairytale of dodgy sub

THE Royal Australian Navy set out to boost morale with a report of its daring submarine exploits on the high seas - the problem was that the account turned out to be fiction. Collins-class submarine HMAS Dechaineux did not make it to the South China Sea to join Exercise Bersama Shield because of a fault in its propulsion system, which had left it stranded in port in Singapore. story

Sub Sleuth Favorite

Why you probably never even heard about this horrendous cover-up:

1. the government wanted it hid
2. sleuth was misspelled

But, that is for you to decide -- not M.E.:

New Category for Navy Ship Naming

The Navy is expected to name a cargo ship under construction in San Diego after labor activist Cesar Chavez. Chavez served in the Navy during World War II, enlisting in 1944.

Chávez later described his experience in the military as “the two worst years of my life.”[5]

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus is expected make a formal announcement Wednesday. With the 2012 elections upon the administration, what better way (obscenely obvious) is theirs to court the coveted hispanic vote?

Not everyone is happy about this capricious choice, which breaks longstanding naming traditions for Navy ships. If the current administration is re-elected, Navy veterans may surely expect a submarine (SSBN/SSN) to eventually be named USS Barbara Boxer or USS Nancy Pelosi, for instance.

Merely Many, Many Coincidences

May 10, 2011 GROTON, Conn. (AP) — Conn. base welcomes 1st women bound for subs

The 10-week Submarine Officer Basic Course that began Monday in Groton, a town midway between New York and Boston, also includes 74 men. No changes have been required in terms of lodging or classrooms, Naval Submarine School spokesman William Kenny said.
Really? Few physical changes in school, perhaps. On subs that has been wired to NOT be the case. A reversible sign on the officers head to declare use by women is trivial. Storage accommodations for female supplies, and unmentionable laundry arrangements are a little more significant.

Far more significant, however, is an entirely new regimentation for males: some fairly ironclad disciplinary measures have been taken to assure an always hospitable environment (forgiving and rarely as demanding for women) never critical (except for felony or repetitive screw ups) that will pave the way politically with an unwritten policy assuring the quick succession of 2 females to submarine COs.

Have we mentioned shirtless swim call? Have we mentioned extra shore duty provisions for added medical needs? Perhaps you actually believe men and women are interchangeable?

The USNA had already become the political correctness assurance model for CoEd Submarine Success (CESS). Shirtless activities at the USNA have been frowned upon, and were related traditions not popular with many influential alumni, would by now certainly have been banned. So successful has the USNA been, that word has spread throughout the education establishment:

May 8 2011 Boston, MA (Yahoo! News Network) No Shirt No Service: High School Coach Jobless After His Boys Track Team Goes Topless

Westwood High track coach Tom Davis was fired last week because one of his runners decided to whip off a shirt during training on a 75-degree day. This wasn't a girl, by the way. It was a boy.

"I fully 100 percent was expecting to be swung at," the coach told NECN TV."

SEALed and Delivered to Scow (Fits Sizes 9-11) for 'Burial' in Indian Ocean

Fitting alternative to jettisoning corpses from a submerged submarine's torpedo tube. The 'other shoe' obviously awaits Ayman al-Zawahiri. Hugo Chavez and Ahmadinejad may not be feeling quite as bold any longer.

(Funeral Scow based on Warship Shoe design by artist Phil Noto.) Neither shown nor saved: Osama's "Shroud of Tours-up."
