Submarinea Mystery Officer Mickey Mouse Connection
Gleaned from the USS Sea Robin (SS-407) Log Book
See entry 09/26/97 17:30:41 GMT (Excerpt): "Of note we had a LT (jg) by the name of Mike Ralston, who was Mike on the Mickey Mouse show." - Bob Gilmore (QMCM ss)
Sea Robin was decommissioned 1 October 1970. The Mickey Mouse Club TV Series ran from 1955 to 1959. According to IMDB's cast directory there had been a Michael A. Smith (1945-1982), who played himself (6 episodes in 1955) but no Mike Ralston.
Commander Michael G. Ralston was commissioned in 1967 as a NESEP graduate (University of Kansas). After completing submarine school, Ralston had served his initial tour as Communicator on board USS Sea Robin (SS 407). - Source: http://www.ussholland.org/Charleston,S.C/Welcome%20Aboard%20Charleston%201983.pdf
Well, we are not faulting Master Chief (SS)'s memory. There are a few possibilities that would make his Mickey Mouse tale true. But, knowing submariners reputation (saved for a later post) our best guess of what really transpired regarding Lt (jg) Ralston on USS Sea Robin presents a slightly different picture (below).
What do you think? That's what we thought.
Submarines are always silent and strange.
