Accolades for Veterans Who Vote

Good News for Vets 

Overall Voter turnout in 2014 was the lowest since WWII --- only 36% voted! 
But, for the 19.6 million military veterans in the United States at last count, the voting record has been MUCH BETTER!

• "Just 36.4 percent of the voting-eligible population cast ballots as of last Tuesday [2014], continuing a steady decline in midterm voter participation that has spanned several decades." The Washington Post
• Even in the last presidential election (2012) only 58 percent of eligible voters cast ballots.

• 14.7 million of the 19.6 million veterans voted in the 2012 election 75% of all veterans.
• In the 2010 congressional [midterm] election. Fifty-seven percent of veterans voted compared with 45.5 percent of all U.S. citizens 18 years and older.

  The political insult to our fathers or grandfathers has been returned in kind by the 2014 recent elections. Ungrateful veterans voted some of those responsible for the abrupt national park closure out of office. 

Remember Congress's voting to cut military pensions?

1.  Harvard-trained attorney John Donald Cody 

From 2012  Fomer O-6 caught as suspect in major Navy charity scam

Sentenced to 28 years in jail for $100 million charity scam and ordered to pay $6 million fine. Cody was convicted in November of defrauding donors of up to $100m in 41 states through his Florida charity, the "U.S. Navy Veterans Association". - 16 December 2013 
 

2.  Vanderbilt Law School  attorney  Kelly B. Mathis

Allied Veterans 'mastermind' Kelly Mathis sentenced to 6 years in prison

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — An attorney convicted of leading a $300 million gambling ring that used a veterans charity (Allied Veterans of America) as a front was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison.  Mathis was convicted last year of 103 counts of racketeering, possessing slot machines and other charges. He will remain free on bond pending appeals.  - Feb. 12, 2014
