THE Royal Australian Navy set out to boost morale with a report of its daring submarine exploits on the high seas - the problem was that the account turned out to be fiction. Collins-class submarine HMAS Dechaineux did not make it to the South China Sea to join Exercise Bersama Shield because of a fault in its propulsion system, which had left it stranded in port in Singapore. story

4 killed in India nuclear submarine accident

INS Arihant — that was scheduled to start final trial on Thursday — got off to an inauspicious start when four naval personnel were killed as it attempted to dock at Vishakhapatnam on Wednesday. A temporary [dry]docking gate collapsed, unleashing a flood of water and killing two officers and two sailors. Commanders Ashwani Kumar, 47, and Ranbir Ranjan, 30, and sailors Madhu Babu, 31, and Rajesh, 30, suffered head injuries when the gate collapsed. They succumbed to their injuries later. story
