Submarine Time Bubbles Part 2: Backward in Time
Part 1 dealt with a missed current event (a time bubble) during submerged submarine travel cut off from mundane news of the civilized world. The missed item had gone totally undetected for the following 20 years.
Part 2 describes surreal links to past events, as if one had traveled (backwards) in time ...
a) 25 DEC 2011 - Cape Cod Daily News published - Navy Lakehurst blimp veterans recall Cold War submarine hunts
USS Seawolf (SSN-575) veterans of the late 1960s sailed with Lt. Dale Hicks, formerly a BROWNSHOE in naval blimps (NAS). Dale is remembered as a very likable fellow, who made an interesting an able addition to our wardroom.
b) 8 DEC 1941 - The New York Times - Japan Wars on U.S. and Britain; Makes Sudden Attack On Hawaii; Heavy Fighting At Sea Reported
1969 Earl 'Pappy' Scholes ETC (SS) reports aboard Seawolf for his twilight (pre-retirement) cruise.
Pappy had been a young sailor stationed at Pearl on 7 Dec 1941. Afterwards, he volunteered for submarine service. He was also a very likable fellow, and an interesting addition to our goat locker.
Submarines are always silent and strange.
