Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has been missing since 8 March 2014.  On 9 March 2014, Chinese news media received an open letter claiming to be from the leader of a Martyrs Brigade, a previously unknown group, claiming the loss of flight MH370 was retaliation for the Chinese government's response to the knife attacks at Kunming railway station a week before, and part of the separatist campaign in Xinjiang province's Uyghur regions.

Underwater locator beacons (ULBs)  are devices attached to aviation flight recorders such as MH370's cockpit voice and flight data recorders (black boxes) and are triggered by water immersion; Most ULBs emit 10 millisecond pulses once per second at the ultrasonic frequency of 37.5 kHz ± 1kHz.

The prime minister of Australia had been “very confident” that signals off Perth were coming from the black box. Sadly it now appears to have been a dead end that will take more weeks or months and millions of dollars to check out completely. – May 7, 2014.

• MH370: Black box 'pings' may actually have come from satellite tracking devices tagged to marine animals

Archaeologist William Meacham wrote: "For several decades, pingers with frequencies of 30 to 50kHz have been commonly used to track large, deep ocean animals."  source

• The detected signal frequency (33.3khz) was NOT within the manufacturer's specs of 37.5 +/- 1 for the black box pinger.  [ibid]

• As listed here, pingers are regularly used in real-time tracking of whales, sharks, sea turtles, tuna, seals, swordfish, etc., as well as for driving predatory fish away from fishing nets.  Moreover, scientists from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution used a pinger with the same specifications as MH370’s in their study of baleen whales.  source

How did China manage this feat first?  There are implications for:  (1) the advanced state of China's submarine detection capabilities; (2) China's previously undisclosed knowledge of MH370's actual location; or, as the man says, (3) incredibly good fortune.  Although the probable correct answer is (2), being able to surpass conventional high-tech gear with "hand held" devices indicates a quatum leap for China's technology, or theft of another Top Secret sonar surveillance design from the U.S..

China's Xinhua News Agency reported that the patrol vessel Haixun 01 on Friday detected a "pulse signal" at 37.5 kilohertz (varies slightly near end of battery life) emitted by both the cockpit voice and the flight data recorder aboard the missing plane MH370, in the southern Indian Ocean. Haixun 01 detected a signal again Saturday 1.4 miles from the original ping, and reported flotsam in the vicinity.

The Australian navy's Ocean Shield, with U.S. Navy high-tech sound detectors, headed there when through investigating pings about 345 miles away.

The Chinese crew reportedly picked up the signals using a hand-held sonar device called a hydrophone dangled over the side of a small runabout — something experts said was technically possible but extremely unlikely.

The equipment aboard the Ocean Shield and the HMS Echo are dragged slowly behind each ship over long distances and are considered far more sophisticated than those the Chinese crew was using.

Casey James Fury, a civilian painter/sandblaster working on USS Miami, was indicted on two counts of arson after he confessed to starting a ruinous fire on the nuclear sub. Fury admitted setting the May 2012 fire to get out of work early.  He was subsequently sentenced to 17 years imprisonment and ordered to pay restitution of $400 million.

MH370 Real Mystery not what we are told

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370  (aka  China Southern Airlines Flight 748)  was a scheduled Boeing 777-200ER passenger flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing, China.  The flight disappeared 8 March 2014, with 227 passengers plus 12 crew on board less than an hour after take-off.

Flying at 471 knots at 35,000 feet communications and transponder signal were lost. Subang Air Traffic Control lost contact with the aircraft at 01:22 and notified Malaysia Airlines at 02:40. Neither the crew nor the aircraft's onboard communication systems relayed a distress signal, indications of bad weather, or technical problems before vanishing from radar screens.

A joint search-and-rescue effort covering an area of 27,000 sq mi in the Strait of Malacca and the South China Sea is ongoing by vessels of over a dazen countries.  

Searchers have even begun to look for debris on land. Today, authorities also began to search the Andaman sea, and the Malaysian government has requested India's help to search the area.

Analysis of Apparent 'Mystery'

The apparent mystery to this point boils down to ineptness of foreign authorities and very slow reporting of hard news by foreign news services:

• Subang Air Traffic Control had lost contact with the aircraft at 01:22, but notified Malaysia Airlines at 02:40. 
• Malaysia Airlines - Notified issued its first media statement at 07:24 (flight had been due to land Beijing International at 06:30).
• U.S. officials and Boeing (aviation accident investigation experts) withhold their instructive commentary, to which most Americans have been accustomed in connection with the dozens of domestic aviation disasters in the last 25 years. Consequently, U.S. news media have not exercised their usual investigatory curiousity. 
• The left-biased U.S. media however have only helped popularize the notion of a great mystery, rather than relative ineptness of foreign aviation authorities and the snail-paced reporting of foreign news outlets.

Notice the striking debris photo (below). A Chinese passenger on a later MA flight from Beijing snapped the photo about 6.45am last Sunday and uploaded it to a Chinese social media (March 9th). Reported (Xinhua) via French People Daily on March 10th.
 

The Chinese missile frigate Mianyang left for the possible crash site Saturday night, and arrived early Monday. What has been reported in the U.S., so far?  By the way, the debris field shown is "roughly consistent with where the missing plane lost contact".
